The Most Common Types of Eyeshadow
Eyeshadows accentuate our eyes, and with the right color combinations and application techniques, you can make your eye makeup look stunning. Accentuated eye makeup adds to your personality. There are various types of eyeshadows available in the market, and a novice could get confused about which one to choose. Let’s go through the different types of eyeshadows available:
1. Compact/pressed powder eyeshadow
Powder eyeshadow is something we are familiar with and most of us associate eyeshadow with powder eyeshadow which is compressed and placed in individual pans. They come in palettes as well, either as a dual palette or trio. Applying powder eyeshadow is quite simple. You can use a primer as a base for the eyeshadow for it to last longer. You can then apply the powder with a shadow brush. You can use your hands too, but do not rub the eyelids, as frequent rubbing can harm the gentle skin and cause premature sagging and wrinkles. Hence, it is best to use an eyeshadow brush. You can check out the types of brushes available and choose the one which you find comfortable to use.
2. Cream eyeshadow
Cream eyeshadows usually come in a pot, tubes, or in sticks. They are very versatile and long-lasting. They can be applied with your fingers in a slight dabbing and sweeping motion across the eyelid; but do not rub the eyelids. As cream eyeshadows tend to crease, use a foundation or primer. Cream eyeshadows can be used as a primer for powder eyeshadows. Select matte shadows with a neutral color when you want to use it as a base. Cream eyeshadows are not suited for hot and humid weather conditions as they can run down and spoil the makeup.
3. Loose pigment eyeshadow
Pigments or loose powders are eyeshadows that come in a powdered form, instead of being compressed or baked and fitted into individual pans. They are generally used by advanced makeup professionals. Applying these loose pigments, which come in a wide array of striking colors and finishes, is an art and can be quite messy if not experienced in its application. Loose glitter and metallic eyeshadows are available to create a more dramatic look. They can be applied with the hand, after applying a primer. You must ensure that it does not fall on your face and maybe place a small card below the eye to prevent any spillovers.
4. Stick/crayon eyeshadow
Shadow sticks are similar to lipstick sticks or crayons. They are great to carry around and very simple to apply. Using stick eyeshadow is very simple, you just have to slide it on the lids and blend it as you wish. The great thing is its long-lasting formula, it can actually last up to 24 hours. Intense colors and the concentrated formula is what makes it long-lasting. You can skip the primer when you use the stick eyeshadow. It can double up as an eyeliner too.
5. Liquid eyeshadow
Liquid eyeshadows come in a tube with a fluffy wand-like stick to apply it on the lids. It dries quickly so the application must be quick and smooth. It is a perfect base for eyeshadow powder, as it holds the powder pigments and enhances its staying power.
6. Baked eyeshadow
This eyeshadow is actually baked in an oven and not pressed. This eyeshadow formula is very smooth and easily blendable, which makes it a big hit among women. It is easier to pack in the color with this type of eyeshadow.
