The Dos and Don’ts for Teen Acne

The Dos and Don’ts for Teen Acne

Teens often are embarrassed about their skin due to acne. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. In fact, teen acne is more likely to go away than acne that occurs in the later stages in life. Moreover, acne is a common issue among teens, as puberty plays a huge role in this.

In order to understand how to get rid of cane, you need to understand why they appear first. Acne consists of bumps, blackheads, pimples, or small cysts that appear on our face, neck, shoulders, and back. They are a result of hormonal changes as you grow older and enter your teens. Sometimes, they are also hereditary. Doctors often inform people that acne is also a symptom of the onset of puberty.

The hair follicles in our skin contain oil glands and they produce sebum oil that lubricates our skin. In those that have an overproduction of sebum, their hair follicles get clogged. As a result, bacteria thrive on these clogged pores, causing swelling and redness, which results in acne. The different stages and types of acne are whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and nodules.

Girls are likely to experience some pimples before their periods; these disappear once their menstrual cycle is over. Acne that occurs during one’s teen years is likely to disappear as one grows older. However, for those who have recurrent acne, there are many OTC medicines and prescription medications available. However, since they cannot be used for a long duration, it is advised to first try natural treatments.

1. Do: Be patient

The most important thing is to believe that acne will go away; avoid paying too much attention to it as long as it is not infected and causing you pain. Acne takes time to disappear and one needs to be patient.

2. Don’t: Avoid trendy solutions

Do not try out all the solutions you read about. They can cause more damage than you know. Instead, opt for natural home remedies that are safe and not expensive.

3. Do: Eat healthier

Remove all toxins from your body. You should drink a lot of water and add whole grains and plant-based foods to your diet.

4. Don’t: Careful when shaving

Teenage boys should not shave over a pimple. It can increase inflammation.

5. Do: Wash your face

Keep your skin clean and dry and wash your face twice a day. Overwashing can strip your skin of healthy oils, causing even more problems.

6. Don’t: Rub your face

Do not rub over the acne. Always pat it dry with a soft towel or facial tissue.

7. Don’t: Squeeze or pop

Do not pinch or squeeze the pimple.

8. Do: Take supplements

Consult a doctor and take supplements of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, C, and E.

9. Do: Go natural

You can try out natural products like apple cider vinegar and fresh lemon juice to help reduce acne.
