Natural Home Flea Prevention Sprays
Fleas can be quite annoying to your pets. There are, of course, a lot of chemical treatments available in the market that can help you get rid of them but not all chemicals are safe for your pet or even you. If you would like to avoid medication, there are some natural methods that you can use. Homemade natural sprays can be quite effective.
Natural sprays to help get rid of fleas include:
1. Herbal flea spray
There are some herbal sprays available in the market that are great to get rid of fleas in your home. These sprays are made from natural, non-toxic products that can be found at home as well. You, too, can also make this herbal spray by mixing 4 liters of vinegar, 2 liters of water, 500 ml of lemon juice, and 250 ml of witch hazel in a large spray bottle. You can then use this natural flea prevention spray on carpets, furniture, pet bedding, window sills, and on floors to help keep fleas at bay.
2. Apple cider vinegar
When applied topically or given orally, apple cider vinegar is effective for flea prevention. Mix some half raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with water and spray it on your pet’s fur coat. This solution helps to protect your pet from fleas. Moreover, since this is made from natural products, it is completely safe. You can also try adding 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to your pet’s drinking water, as this helps to get rid of fleas from the inside out. However, consult a vet before trying this method.
3. Rosemary flea dip
In order to prepare this natural flea prevention spray, you will need to start by seeping two cups of fresh rosemary in boiling water for about thirty minutes. Then, strain the liquid, trash the remaining leaves, and mix it to a gallon of water. Wait until the solution cools down and douse your pet with the prepared solution until he/she is soaked; let it dry naturally. This will help get rid of the fleas easily.
4. Lemon spray repellent
For another inexpensive but rather effective natural flea prevention spray, try using a fresh lemon. Cut the lemon into quarters, cover it with some boiling water, and let it stay overnight. Spray the mixture on your pet in the morning. However, be careful to avoid your pet’s eyes while spraying the solution.
5. Indian lilac
This all-natural flea repellent comes from the Indian lilac or neem tree that is a native to countries like Sri Lanka, Burma, and India. In order to make a natural flea prevention spray, you will need to add a few drops of neem oil to your pet shampoo. You can also dilute it with dishwashing liquid and then spray the solution on to your pet’s fur.
